Following a mocking comment that US President Donald Trump launched against activist Greta Thunberg, former First Lady Michelle Obama did not remain silent and sent an encouraging message of support for the teenager.
Through his Twitter account, Obama advised the environmental leader to ignore negative comments from people who doubt his cause. "Don't let anyone turn off your light," wrote Obama. “Just like the girls I have met in Vietnam and around the world, you have so much to offer us. Ignore the skeptics and [you should] know that millions of people are applauding you.”
Obama's message of support comes after Trump described as "ridiculous" the fact that the young woman fighting to combat the climate crisis was named Person of the Year by Time magazine, a title that the president obtained in 2016, and which in the past has been awarded to figures such as Pope Francis and former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
“Greta must work on her problem to control her anger, then she must go [to see] a good movie with a friend! Relax Greta, relax!”Trump wrote on her Twitter account.
For his part, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden came to the defense of the young woman, reproving and questioning the behavior of the president.
"What kind of president bullying a teenager?" He asked on the same social network.
But Thunberg seems to have taken Trump's comment with great grace and irony, changing the biography of his profile to reflect the president's words.
Congratulations Greta!
