Uncle Reveals To Police Where The Body Of His 5-year-old Niece Was

The case of Elizabeth Shelley, the 5-year-old girl who disappeared from her Utah home, has ended in tragedy. The lawyer for Alex Whipple, 21, the minor's uncle who is accused of her murder, informed PEOPLE that Whipple himself told authorities where to find the girl's body. "He knows he is involved in a very, very serious matter," said Shannon Demler, Whipple's attorney. "After I met him for a few hours, he decided it was best for everyone involved to tell the authorities the location of the body."

Demler did not disclose whether Whipple will plead guilty to the murder of her niece, who was reported missing from her home last Saturday morning. The little girl was last seen at her home early Saturday morning at 2 a.m., but the next morning her mother noticed she was missing, as was her 21-year-old uncle Alexander Whipple.

The man did not live in the little girl's house, but he was staying there that night to sleep. Whipple, who has a criminal history, is the prime suspect in the kidnapping and murder of his niece. Police reported that Whipple was located on Saturday and arrested on a probation violation order. The man is in the Cache County Jail, but the girl was not with him when he was arrested.

Logan Police Chief Gary Jensen said during a press conference that there is evidence - including DNA evidence - linking Whipple to the disappearance of his niece. The man was found by police in a remote area about 10 miles from Elizabeth's home with the girl's clothes in his hands, the Daily Mail reported. Authorities also reportedly found a baseball bat, alcohol and paraphernalia from drugs when Whipple was arrested. The case is still ongoing.
