A Mississippi mother is behind bars after allegedly strangling her baby girl and then abandoning her in a forest, People magazine confirmed.

Santangela Turner, 26, is accused of strangling the girl with a car charger and then abandoning her in a forest near her apartment complex, according to a Jones County Sheriff's Department press release obtained by People magazine..

A series of alarming text messages allegedly sent by Turner led investigators to his arrest, according to the statement.

Turner turned himself in Monday after learning that an arrest warrant had been issued against him and made an initial appearance in court Tuesday, according to a Jones County court official, who was unaware of whether This one already had a lawyer.
