Surfer Almost Dies In Scottish Sea

His desire to surf led Matthew Bryce to the brink of death. The 22-year-old ended up at the hospital after surviving 32 hours on his board in the frozen Irish Sea.

Bryce, who is born in Glasgow, disappeared since Sunday once he entered the sea to surf the Scottish north west coast. According to CNN information, it was a rescue helicopter led by the Belfast Coast Guard that found the young man holding onto his board 20 kilometers off the Scottish coast yesterday.

After Bryce failed to show up for a date he had with a friend, authorities began the search, which lasted approximately seven hours. "Hope to find the surfer was fading after so long, and when night came we were very concerned," said Dawn Petrie at the Belfast Coast Guard Operations Center, who helped coordinate the search and also clarified that the boy had been hypothermic.

Apparently the strong wind of the weekend made the young surfer move away from the coast. “He was wearing a rather thick suit with a hood and boots and had managed to stay by his board. All of those things helped him survive,”said Alex Smith, Belfast Marine Operations Controller.

Fortunately, the Scotsman is in the hospital recovering from this terrible experience.
