The reasons that motivated Fernando Sierra to murder and abuse little Felipe Romero last weekend are still a mystery. The only thing that is known so far is that Sierra had a more than close relationship with the boy and apparently was thinking of adopting him.
According to an interview that Felipe's mother, Alexandra Pérez, granted to El País, Sierra already had all the papers to start the child adoption process. “ Juan Sosa, the coach of Felipe's category in Defender, told me that Fernando told him that he was doing the papers to adopt Felipe. I also found out that Fernando's mother was saying that Felipe was his grandson and that he was going to move in with them soon.”
It was for that reason that Pérez consulted a therapist, since according to her the relationship of the child and the coach was not normal, since Felipe called him father. In fact, on the 10th of July that is celebrated on Father's Day, the boy sent Fernando a message saying: "Happy daddy day, I love you daddy, I hope you are always with me."
After the psychologist advised Pérez not to leave the boy alone with Sierra, the mother spoke to him. "I never told Sierra that I couldn't see Felipe. I told him that my son was going to continue going to soccer practices, but that the psychologist advised that he could not continue seeing him alone. I told him that I was going to take the boy to practice, that he no longer use WhatsApp to communicate with my son,”Pérez told El País. "He said, 'I get it, I get it,' but I saw that he had a horrible face. The look showed that she did not like what she had said.
Pérez also said that on other occasions Sierra took the boy without his consent. One day when he challenged Sierra and told him that he had to respect her because she was the boy's mother, the coach burst into tears and said: "If you take Felipe away from me, I will kill myself."
And so it was, after kidnapping the boy, he ended his life. Sierra, coach of the Club Defensor Maldonado in Uruguay, abducted and murdered 10-year-old Felipe, and later committed suicide. The young man was holding the boy, was not wearing shoes, and had a.22-caliber weapon in place. According to the police chief of the town of Lavalleja, Eduardo Martínez, Sierra shot the boy and later took his life.
Yesterday, authorities determined that the boy had been sexually abused for a long time and also found that there were tranquilizers at the crime scene that were probably given to the boy before he was killed. Interrogations of the relatives of both, as well as of the people who work at the child's school, are expected to continue this week.
