The luxury brand Balenciaga has looked to the Swedish giant for the design of a new accessory. Apparently the Arena bag has many similarities to the iconic blue IKEA bag. They're both huge in size, neon blue, and have two handles for easy handling. The one from IKEA is made of recycled plastic while the one from Balenciaga has opted for a luxurious material when using shiny textured wrinkled leather. The biggest difference? The one at IKEA costs 99 cents and is made from recycled plastic, while the one at Balenciaga costs $ 2,145.
It is not spring that Balenciaga's creative director, Demna Gvasalia, takes inspiration from iconic popular culture products for his pieces. In August 2016, the designer had his models parade on the catwalk with oversized bags inspired by Thai laundry bags. When Gvasalia used to occupy the position of creative director of the Vetements brand, he also put on sale imitations of his pieces alongside the real ones. A spokesperson for the brand told the Today show (NBC), “We are deeply flattered that the Balenciaga bag resembles the 99-cent blue recycled bag. Nothing beats the versatility of a huge blue bag!”
