Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States this Friday with the promise of opening a new era in which the country "will win again like never before", putting its interests before any other consideration in matters such as trade, defense or immigration.

With his right hand raised and flanked by his family, the New York magnate swore at noon the charge on the Bible led by the chief of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, and under the gaze of his predecessor, Barack Obama, and two other former presidents, George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter.

Before a crowd significantly smaller than on other occasions and with a blue coat to protect himself from the cold and rain that fell in the capital, the new president offered an investiture speech in which he reviewed the main points of the populist platform that promoted him in past elections to the White House.

"The United States will win again, to win like never before," said the billionaire, who promised to "return" the country's government to citizens. "Today we take power away from Washington and hand it over to you, the people."

Trump drew a dark past in which politicians had "prospered" while the rest of the country suffered the loss of jobs and income as a result of globalization and the transfer of industrial production to other countries.

"This ends right here, right now, because this moment belongs to them," he said. "Forgotten men and women will no longer be."

He regretted that "for many years" the industry of other countries has been "enriched" at the expense of the United States, having "subsidized" other armies at the expense of the United States and defended other borders while "refusing to defend ours."

In this sense, he assured that he will follow two rules: "Buy what is American and hire Americans."

Regarding immigration, he made no mention of the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico or his promise to deport the 10 million undocumented immigrants.

But he did assure that he will protect the border from "other countries that manufacture our products, steal our companies and destroy our jobs."

"We will recover our jobs, we will recover our borders, we will recover our wealth," he said. "We will make America great again."

Shortly after, and accompanied by the new first lady, Melania Trump, the new president accompanied former President Obama and his wife Michelle to the helicopter that took them to Andrews Air Force Base, where after a brief ceremony, they will go on vacation to California.

At that time, the transfer of powers and the birth of a new government, the Trump administration, was completed.
