The person who died Saturday when a tree fell in the middle of a wedding that was celebrated in South Los Angeles has been identified as the mother of the bride.

The victim's name was Margarita Mojarro, 61, from San Pedro, California. At the time of the events, she was standing next to the huge eucalyptus that collapsed on the guests who were taking some photos.

The woman's body was recovered from among the pieces of the trunk that the firefighters had to cut with an electric saw. The Los Angeles coroner confirmed to People that the woman was pronounced dead at the same scene.

"Margarita was a very good person and a very loving woman," she told Guadalupe Cuevas magazine, whose son - René - is married to Sonia, other of the victim's daughters.

The tragedy occurred around 4:30 pm in Penn Park, in Whittier County, south of Los Angeles, where the wedding of Patty, another of the deceased's daughters, was being held.

Cuevas - who did not attend the wedding due to a hearing problem that prevents him from attending places with too much noise - said that his son was taking photos of the eucalyptus with his children, aged 8 and 6, when the tree fell.

"It is a huge tragedy and my son is very traumatized," the woman told People. "He is taking it very seriously because his children were very close to the tree."

Cuevas assured that Doña Margarita had a very close bond with her daughters and grandchildren, and that she was a woman very dedicated to her family.

"Margarita's daughters loved their mother very much, they were always calling her and she was always there to help them," said the deceased. "She was a mother who gave her unconditional support, a great friend and neighbor."
