Singer Milly Quezada is mourning the sensitive death of her beloved brother, Rafael Antonio Quezada, who died this Saturday, November 30 at the age of 68 in New York City, as confirmed by multiple sources.
Quezada was born on April 11, 1951 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and was the older brother of the merenguera. He allegedly died as a result of prostate cancer that he had suffered for approximately five years and that forced him to withdraw from music for two years, according to the newspaper El Nuevo Día in Puerto Rico.
"Rafaelito was a man with great spirit who lived grateful to God for the talents he had," said the artist from her native land. "Although hurt, we are calm because we know that he is already resting in the arms of our Lord."
Quezada resided in Upper Manhattan and was married for 46 years to Betty Díaz, with whom he had three daughters: Carol Martínez, Suzanna Camacho and Andrés Quezada, who gave him three grandchildren: Sarah Martínez and Jacob and Nathan Camacho, according to his obituary.
Quezada conducted the orchestra and the support team that accompanied his sister Milly. According to the aforementioned Puerto Rican newspaper, even during her fight against cancer, she continued to work hand in hand with Pedro Núñez del Risco, head of the artist's team and Josefina Frómeta de Núñez, manager of her tours.
"We have left an important link for our merengue, Rafaelito, affectionately known as ' Maestro ' for his excellence and professionalism within the artistic class, led the group for more than three decades," he said of his outstanding musical career through a press release issued this Sunday. "In his first 20 full-length albums, he defined the merengue line that, in front of two excellent female performers, the sisters Milly & Jocelyn carried Dominican popular music around the world."
His remains will be unveiled Tuesday at the Riewerts Memorial Home Funeral Home in Bergenfield, New Jersey, and he will be buried Wednesday at Mt. Rest Cemetery.
