África Zavala Launches As A Singer And Presents Her First Single

Many might think that she is an improvised in this of the music world, but the truth is that, despite having triumphed as an actress in successful Televisa soap operas such as Corona de ldrimas, La malquerida or The double life of Estela Carrillo, África Zavala He began his artistic career as a singer in a youth group with the renowned Mexican producer Luis de Llano while studying at the Televisa Center for Artistic Education. “Since I was a little girl I dreamed of being a singer,” the 34-year-old interpreter acknowledges People en Español, who has just presented her first single, 'Tu nueva novia', in Mexico at the Billboards Latin Music Showcase.

“I decided to choose a funny song. I had several songs and I was looking like the one I wanted for the single and in fact I got together with my fans, I was sending them the songs to see which one seemed the most cool to them, and we decided that 'Your new girlfriend' was the song because It was very funny, it's youthful and it's like another type of band”, he details.

It was in 2017, as a result of the singer character that she played in the successful soap opera The double life of Estela Carrillo, when the actress decided to resume her facet as a singer.

“Thank God I did so well in acting that I never thought about fighting for this dream [of being a singer] anymore. However, when The double life of Estela Carrillo arrives with this character so strong that everyone loved it and that it was a trending topic on Twitter every day, this idea came out and I decided I wanted to do it”, she explains.

How would you define your style as a singer?

My style as a singer is 'Africa' style. I have a lot of people that I admire but I will try, as in acting, to find my own style, to do something different.

Is the song inspired by a personal story?

No, it has nothing to do with any of my stories or I sing it to anyone. We just decided that the song was very funny and very catchy. I think the important thing about a song is that it stays on you and this song has it. It also has difficult things, in the end the chorus is not so easy but my voice is sharp so I think the song was perfect.

What are your next steps to follow in the world of music?

We are going to make the video and later we will upload the song [to the digital platforms] and we will release more songs. We are already working on all that. But well the first thing is that we are going to have the show and we will start to sing that that is what is really important because since before I had been singing in some places so we wanted to do it well and well that is the next step, and to start taking shows.

Many believe that if you are an actress you cannot sing, what do you think about it?

Yes, I know that many times they say that comment 'another actress who wants to sing', but the truth is that it has been a lifelong dream, like I was already in a group, we had already sung at the Azteca Stadium, in the Teatro Metropólitan… It was a dream that I had and that I left behind and like everything there will be people who like it, there will be people who don't like it, there will be criticism and it is something that one has to be used to in this race. In the end, the most important thing for me is the fans who are happy with this new project and all the public who are happy. And those who like it will be there and those who don't, well, nothing happens. There is always a taste for everything.
