Colombian publisher Nina García, known for her role as creative director of Marie Claire magazine and who became known to the world for her role as judge in the popular Project Runway series, has been named the new editor of Elle magazine.

“Nina is the Elle woman, her life is full, she is curious about everything and she is passionate about fashion, beauty, technology, art, travel, the environment, issues related to women and the way in which all of these connect,”Joanna Coles, Hearst's chief content officer, told WWD. “She understands the world of multiple platforms and was involved from the start becoming one of the most influential characters on social media with the highest number of followers for a publisher-in-chief. Nina has a great personality, and will bring her energy, unique sensitivity and style to Elle, a brand she knows very well.”

García, who served as Marie Claire's Creative Director from 2012 and as Fashion Director for the same publication from 2008 to 2012, has written four fashion books and has 411k followers on Instagram. According to the New York Times, Garcia will be responsible for amplifying the brand's DNA and will continue to celebrate the diversity and voices of emerging talent. Her first edition as editor-in-chief is expected to be February or March 2018.

"I have affection for Elle and this is a very special return," says Garcia, who worked as fashion director for the publication from 2000 to 2008 and with this new appointment becomes the first Latina to lead an American magazine. “It is Elle's time to be ahead, inspiring and informing her readers about everything.
