The bachatera of Dominican origin, Leslie Grace, adorns one of our covers of the November edition, and stars in our special on hair, in which in addition to telling us how she cares for her mane, she models the modern version of the hairstyles that have triumphed in the last two decades.

You have just released your single “Aire”, participated in the program Va por ti and now you are starting a tour with Maluma through Mexico. How have you combined everything?

I have been very busy, but enjoying this whole process of my career. Going for you has been a very nice stage. I am passionate about helping others and more when it comes to what I like. On a musical level I am finishing my album, which if God wants is going to come out in early 2017.

In addition to having a good time in your career, we have noticed that lately you risk more with hairstyles, as in Premios Juventud, where you chose to show off your curly hair. Tell us about your hair and your relationship with it

I, as a good Dominican, have very frizzy hair and living here in Miami, you know, the humidity. God blessed me with a typical Dominican mother who knows how to dry my hair very well and she travels with me. I always go smoothing my hair with the iron, [putting on] a lot of heat and hairspray, and my mom tries to hydrate my hair with many products, cut my ends, because it is difficult to do [my job] and keep my hair healthy.

How do you take care of it on a daily basis?

I don't wash my hair every day because if I don't end up bald. But weekly I try to keep my hair when I go to sleep in anchovies [rolled with tongs] so that the next day I don't wake up having to do everything again. And many oil treatments.

What would you say you have learned from your hair over the years?

To accept my natural texture. Before, like at 13 or 14 years old, I felt a little insecure because they all had straight and cute hair, and I dreamed of getting up in the morning and not thinking about what I had to do with my hair.

When did that change?

I realized that everyone with straight hair wanted my hair. Now I realize that it is an [advantage] because I can have it both ways. I can wash it and have it as an afro, and the next day I can dry it and have it straight. I think it is something that we all have to do, love what God gave us and use it because that makes you unique.

Whose hair do you admire?

I loved seeing the different looks Rihanna did on her hair. I saw a documentary where she shows all the wigs she has. The stylist says to him: 'Why don't you wear wigs and so every time you have to introduce yourself you have a new look?' It is something that we girls can do without having to mistreat our hair. If you have someone who knows how to do it, it can look spectacular.
