The Spanish firm Desigual has presented its spring summer 2017 collection at New York Fashion Week. Accustomed to colorful and original prints, the brand did not disappoint its followers, although it has been polishing its style until turning its designs into more sophisticated looks, starring monochromatic sets in different textures and with elaborate details such as beads and rhinestones.

“Inspiration is the concept of the global traveler, but not only does she discover new physical territory, but she opens her mind and creates her own reality from an offline and online world” commented the global director of communications for the firm Daniel Pérez. “It is a nod to the explorers of the 19th century who conquered new freedoms for their heirs of the 21st century. It is Desigual's new 'Eva'”.

On the catwalk we have seen ultra-feminine military-inspired designs, lots of denim and artisan fabrics such as lace or crochet, with embroidery and beading. "There is a lot of handwork, especially the decoration of the pieces, which we want to promote from the brand," added Pérez.

In the color palette, blue, earth tones prevail, as well as bright brushstrokes such as deep yellow and orange, typical of spring. "It is a collection with a Mediterranean vision", explains Pérez. "It is the attitude of the brand itself, an optimistic and positive vision of life."

As for beauty, the hair was in charge of Richard Kavanagh, with Ulta Beauty and Cutler, who was in charge of highlighting the natural hair of the models with products to create texture and volume such as leave-in conditioners, salt spray and dry shampoo. Instead of fashion dictating how the hairstyle should be, we look at the girls and decide how they are going to look their best,”says the stylist. "She is a mix of adventurous, playful women, who enjoy life and embrace personal individuality."

The makeup, done by Gordon Espinet for MAC, stood out for its naturalness. "We have not used colors to change or camouflage their features," says the makeup artist. "We are using a lot of colorless products. It's more about preparing, fixing and perfecting."

The key products of the look are the concealer, which the makeup artist applied under the eyes of the models to give it luminosity, a moisturizing lotion to prepare the skin and a product to fix the eyebrows and keep them in place. “It is not about one size fits all, but about the individuality of women. You don't have to wear a lot of makeup to be fashionable, you don't have to look like an instagram filter, you can be yourself who is beautiful enough”.

Five of the hair and makeup looks were inspired by Snapchat filters, so the models showed off details in their hair or face, like those that appear on the popular social network.

On the other hand, the parade's manicure was inspired by Instagram. The manicurist Keri Blair created six looks: two in gold tones, two silver and two gradients, using powder pigments, foil and sponges. "The whole beauty look [hair, makeup and nails] was inspired by the idea of 'be your best you'," says Blair. "Instagram is an incredible source of inspiration for people, it's about your creativity."

The star accessory of the show were the sandals, sporty style, wide straps highly decorated with beads and rhinestones and thick soles, which also left the models' fingers in the air. "They all have open sandals," Blair completes. "So we have married the color of the sandal with that of the pedicure to make the silhouette of the shoe more interesting."
