That so many soap operas are not produced as before, especially on Televisa, is an undeniable reality. If a few years ago the Mexican television station had up to five 'new' melodramas on the air, nowadays its programming grid is hardly made up of three fictions: La reina soy yo, Soltero con hijas y Médicos - not to mention the repetitions. But from there to assure with all certainty that the public is losing interest in this type of stories and that is why it is migrating to streaming platforms such as Netflix, HBO or Amazon Premium in search of different content, it is at least rushed.

At least that is the conclusion that can be drawn at a glance if you analyze, for example, the ranking of the most viewed series on Netflix that the platform made public days ago through its social networks.

Contrary to what one might think, one of the fictions that make up the top 5 is a classic soap opera: I am Betty the ugly.

The successful Colombian soap opera starring Ana María Orozco and Jorge Enrique Abello premiered 20 years ago and, despite competing within the renowned platform with the most innovative and attractive content, it has positioned itself again, to the public's liking.

I think that none of us who participated in the soap opera imagined everything that was going to happen, what was going to bring us, not at all. I did not imagine it, but it has been a very great gift from life and for my work, for everything… A great learning too”, Orozco acknowledged months ago in an exclusive interview with People en Español about the success he had, and continues to have, the original story of the late Colombian writer Fernando Gaitán.

In the ranking of the most viewed series there is also another soap opera, although in this case much more recent and exclusive to the streaming platform: The Dragon.

The television series that Univision broadcasts at 10 pm Eastern time, with Argentine actor Sebastián Rulli as the protagonist, is among the most viewed contents since it was released last October.

The success of Yo soy Betty la fea seems to have motivated Netflix to continue rescuing melodramas from the trunk of memories that were once great successes since the platform recently announced through their social networks that the Argentine youth soap opera Rebelde Way, a story that has more than 15 years of life.

The fiction created by the Argentine producer Cris Morena and starring Camila Bordonaba, Luisana Lopilato, Benjamín Rojas and Felipe Colombo had its own Mexican adaptation between 2004 and 2006 that became a global television and musical phenomenon that was championed by Anahí, Alfonso Herrera, Maite Perroni, Christian Chávez, Dulce María and Christopher Uckermann.
