Although he had been immersed in the world of acting for several years before giving life to Ismael Casillas, it was as a result of his participation in El señor de los cielos (Telemundo), a story he joined in 2016 as the son of Aurelio Casillas (Rafael Amaya), that the artistic career of Iván AranaIt acquired international projection and its name began to become known among the general public. "Getting to different places in the United States, the Dominican Republic and getting people to know you is really very nice and I think it is the search for any artist, to be recognized in different parts of the world," Arana acknowledges. In an exclusive interview with People en Español, the Mexican interpreter talks about his participation in this successful superset and tells us how he experienced Amaya's surprising departure from fiction on a personal level.
I lived a duel to see the first chapter, the truth yes I suffered it, it was something shocking for me too and not to mention recording it
What has your participation in The Lord of the Skies meant to you?
It has given me a very good projection in the world, it has made me known in various parts of the world, something that I have experienced through the promotional trips that I have been doing. Reaching different places in the United States, the Dominican Republic and getting people to know you is really very nice and I think it is the search for any artist, to be recognized in different parts of the world. And also at a professional level I think it has given me a lot of experience and I have grown with the character.
How did you get to the superset?
I arrived summoned by a casting that was made to my office, CMX, in which they looked for me and it was an interesting casting because it was a monologue that was a bit extensive. It was not a simple scene so it required more concentration on my part and I also had to investigate through that monologue the psychology of Ismael Casillas, so I soaked things both on YouTube and in books to get more solid to the casting and I It went very well.
How do you remember your first day on the recording set?
It was nice because it's like when you get to your first day of school that you don't know anyone but it was nice because I had the opportunity to come with Wendy de los Cobos, who played my mom, so I think that the two of us somehow made a team and we felt the same.
Did you ever imagine that your participation would last so long?
The truth yes, yes I believed it and yes I imagined it. With this type of series you have no idea when you are invited to make a character if it is going to evolve or not, but I really did believe it.
Iván Arana.
With which of the cast have you struck up the most friendship?
The recording process has been very nice. I think that with all the companions who have shared the scene, with each one at their level of course, I have made a beautiful friendship. That is something that I liked about this project, that we all have our egos very well accommodated so everything flows very well on the set and we give ourselves a chance to be more creative.
The superset recently experienced the departure of Aurelio Casillas, how did you experience it?
The truth was also painful for me as Iván Arana. Sharing so many years with one person and being his son … we made a very beautiful relationship. I think we both have a lot of affection. One as an actor must learn not to connect with those kinds of feelings and know how to get out of what is happening with the psychology of his character, but in the end things are mixed because they are many years old. Of course I experienced a duel when watching the first chapter, the truth was that I suffered it, it was something shocking for me too and let alone record it that I had the opportunity to be 'directed' by Rafael at that time of those very strong scenes. The truth is that I really appreciate what he did and how he shared his knowledge and what I learned with him. But it was strong, it was a strong thing for everyone I think.
What was it like having Rafael Amaya as a father in fiction?
As I mentioned a moment ago, we made a very nice relationship, I think we got along very well. He is a very light person on set, he tries to have a good time, I have learned that from Rafa. It somehow helps everyone to relax, if he was relaxed we all relaxed. That usually happens on set with the protagonists. So he somehow helped me a lot to feel calm and to play. He improvises a lot then I also learned a lot with him because he had to be with the antenna now rather than trying to solve the scenes.
How was the farewell between Rafael and you on the recording set?
As actors, whenever you finish a project, you want to believe that we can run into other projects. In each scene term, in each recording day term we always gave each other a big hug and it was always with a very good vibe and that was also the last time.
