Fernando Colunga, First Image As Valverde: The Patron Saint

Fernando Colunga will stop being the eternal soap opera lover in his long-awaited return to television as the protagonist of Malverde: The patron saint, the new Telemundo superset in which the renowned Mexican actor will wear a very different look than the one we are used to.

Although the fiction has not yet begun to be recorded, this week the Spanish-language network gave a taste of what the 53-year-old interpreter will look like in this new story during the Natpe 2020 fair, an event that brings together the most prominent professionals in the world of television and in which the television stations present the news of their programming for 2020.

The one who was the protagonist of successful soap operas like La usurpadora, Soy tu dueña and Porque el amor manda leaves behind his image as a leading man to play Valverde, a Mexican bandit born in 1870 in Sinaloa who becomes a legendary figure, defender of the people, protector of both innocent and poor and in turn of drug traffickers and malvivientes.

The advancement, as expected, did not leave anyone indifferent, much less Colunga fans who would never have imagined seeing him in such a character.

"He looks very haggard, it doesn't seem like it was him", can be read among the dozens of comments that have flooded the networks.

To see the actor in action already on stage we will have to wait a bit since the superset will not be released until next year.
