Oklahoma police are looking for Evelyn Ortiz-Luevano, a Tulsa-resident woman accused of child neglect and negligent homicide in the death of her 5-year-old son. The minor died hit by a car after falling from an electric scooter that his mother was driving in the opposite direction of traffic.
The tragic event occurred on April 23 when the woman was driving the scooter in which she was carrying the little Caiden Reyes-Ortiz. They circulated on 31st Street and Riverside Drive, as reported by the Tulsa World site. The woman apparently lost control of the scooter, causing the boy to fall onto the road, where he received the fatal impact of a car.
The woman and friends had reportedly rented the scooters for a ride on the bank of the Arkansas River. Witnesses told police that they saw a pair of scooters march in the opposite direction of traffic and that some cars honked their horns.
Renier Davison, the driver of the vehicle, fled the scene, but last Wednesday turned himself in to authorities. Now he faces charges for leaving the scene of a fatal crash, driving with an expired license, and causing an accident without a current driver's license.
Ortiz-Luevano reportedly worked at a local dry cleaner. Her coworkers opened a GoFundMe page to help her pay for the funeral services, which took place this Sunday in Tulsa.
However, the woman did not show up for services. For his part, Sergeant Shane Tuell, of the Tulsa police, declared that they had indications that the woman could have fled this weekend to Mexico upon learning of the charges against her for the death of the child and that They were formally lifted last Friday.
It is unknown if the woman is of Mexican nationality, but if captured and sent back to Oklahoma she would face up to a year in prison for negligent homicide.
