Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff Joseph Lombardo reported Monday that the death toll from the shooting last night in the city of Nevada has risen to 58 and the number of wounded to at least 515.

The first reports indicated that 50 people had died and 406 had been taken to hospitals after what is considered the worst shooting in the history of the United States.

The massacre happened when a man identified by the police as Stephen Paddock, 64, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, in the casino area of the Game Capital, against the public attending an open air concert Free country music at the foot of the building.

The author of the shooting fired indiscriminately at the crowd and the policemen guarding the event. He reportedly killed himself after the massacre.

A head of the Las Vegas sheriff's office, Kevin McMahill, told CNN that at least 10 weapons, including rifles, were found in the subject's hotel room.

Network users shared photos and video of the shooting that started at 10:08 pm local time during the Route 91 Harvest festival as the public witnessed the performance of singer Jason Aldean.

The artist was immediately taken behind the scenes when the shooting began. "Right now we think there was only one author, a kind of lone wolf," said Joseph Lombardo, sheriff of the Las Vegas metropolitan police to the mentioned chain.

President Donald Trump this morning sent a message on Twitter in solidarity with the victims and their families. For his part, Brian Sandoval, Governor of Nevada, said the same way that the "atrocious and tragic act of violence has shaken the #Family of Nevada" and asked for prayers for those who have been affected by what he called an "act cowardice."

This Monday, Aldean addressed the public through Instagram, assuring that Sunday night went "beyond the horrifying". "I still don't know what to say but I wanted everyone to know that me and my team are safe," he said. "It hurts my heart that this has happened to those who only came to have fun and spend a fun night."

Meanwhile, sources in Nevada reported that police have located Marilou Danley, 62, who was apparently Paddock's companion and roommate. The woman was questioned but so far it is ruled out that it had to do with the shooting, according to ABC 7.

The Islamic State has attributed the massacre through a statement, in which it assures that the person responsible for the shooting is one of its "soldiers". However, for now, the US authorities have not confirmed that it is a terrorist act.
