A 13-year-old Hispanic teenager passed away surprisingly soon after asking to be replaced at a soccer game last weekend in California.
According to the Orange County Register, Felipe de la Cruz was playing the second part of the meeting in the town of Westminster when he complained that he felt tired and asked the coach to change it.
This was done, but within 30 seconds of sitting on the bench he collapsed unconscious.
"I was playing a great game, one of the Strikers FC North team coaches Mike Ornelas told the newspaper. "He was going on the attack and he was defending well."
A doctor who was on site performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques, without result. He was immediately transferred to a hospital in the area, where his death was certified. The cause of death will not be officially known until after the autopsy is performed.
Those responsible for the team, who were very affected, assured the Register that there was no indication that the boy suffered from health problems.
"As a coach you are constantly concerned that things like this can happen, but you hope it never happens," another coach, Ron Esparza, told the newspaper.
The team dedicated their Sunday game to their deceased partner and a GoFundMe account was opened to finance his funeral. "He was a smiling, friendly and happy son, brother, teammate and friend of just 13 years old," says the page, on which the requested $ 20,000 have almost been raised.
