As soon as Betty aired in NY in August last year, Elyfer Torres, its protagonist, entered a kind of existential crisis. "Several people had told me 'is that this character is so strong, you're going to stay there forever' and it started to give me a horrible anxiety," the 23-year-old young Mexican actress, who feared, told People en Español at first not being able to get rid of the character.

Her initial fear, however, disappeared just a month after the end of Telemundo's hit telenovela when she was cast to join the cast for the second season of Intimate Enemy.

"In the first days of October I was already recording the series and there I was very reassured," says Elyfer, who acknowledges that it was not easy to be given the opportunity to participate in the series since at first they were suspicious that he could leave back to Betty. "Marcos Santana [president of Telemundo Global Studios] told me 'I want to see you at the casting but I am afraid, that is, you just lived Betty too long.' And I asked him to let me do it and to decide when he saw me.”

Betty was like the one who gave me the drive to achieve my dreams, both the project and the character

The actress was finally able to do her casting and the result surprised everyone. "They told me 'what a cannon you do change a lot' because I also went with a completely different look."

Goodbye to Betty

This is how Elyfer managed to stay on the project and began to give life to this new character in Mexico, his native country, who is completely opposite to Betty.

"As an actress, it makes me very happy because I can teach the public that I can do something very different, from another much more violent place, which is what Alicia, my character, lives", she goes on about her participation in this story that will see the light of day. mid-year on Telemundo screens.

His return to Mexico after spending almost a year residing in Miami, however, had his days numbered. Although her family didn't know it yet, long before she began filming the Intimate Enemy superset, the actress had made the decision to move to Los Angeles earlier this year to try her luck in Hollywood. Something that she dreamed of as a child but did not gain strength until last year she participated in a charity concert in Los Angeles and was able to meet those who are now her managers, which led her to later sign with UTA (United Talent Agency), one of the world's leading talent and entertainment companies in the world. "It was a dream because for me UTA was a dream for a long time," Elyfer admits excitedly.

New life

Just a few months later, Elyfer was already packing her bags and leaving her native Mexico behind to head to Los Angeles ready to start a new life.

“I've been three weeks and it's very crazy because I don't even have an apartment. I'm at the house of an aunt who lives in Los Angeles, but I'm very happy, she says excitedly.

His dream, he acknowledges, would be to be able to participate in a project in English with a production company "and represent Latinas in the United States because I think there is not enough representation of Latinas in the United States." "I would like to be part of a project that unifies all cultures because that is who we truly are."

The actress does not hide her desire to one day work with the renowned Mexican comedian Eugenio Derbez. "I admire her very much and the way to do her crossover was so perfect because she did not forget either of the two markets and I think that is the way to grow as an artist and as a human being," says the actress.

Elyfer is aware that the path to achieve this can be long and complicated, but she is not willing to take her finger off the line until she achieves it.

"Just as it took me to get to Betty, it probably costs me to get to a character in English, I don't know, but I'm willing to take that risk since it takes whatever it takes," she says.

Although he does not hide his desire to debut in Hollywood and act in series and movies in English, Elyfer's plans are not to forget the Latin market. “I have two agents and they put me on a third one that will handle the Latino market. I know that when they come out, I will continue doing things there.”

And it is that his goal, makes it clear, regardless of whether the project is in English or Spanish, is to make people enjoy and be happy while watching their work, as happened with Betty in NY, a project that, without a doubt, marked a before and after both in his career and in his life.

“In addition to exposing myself to many people seeing my work, Betty was the one who gave me the drive to achieve my dreams, both the project and the character. I think both things helped me a lot to grow and not be afraid of being me."
