Thatiana Díaz, the Dominican-born contestant who represents New York in the Miss USA pageant, is ready to take the crown this Sunday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and spoke to People en Español about her experience so far.
How do you feel about representing New York?
I am fascinated by representing the state where I was born and raised. Everyone dreams of visiting the big apple and that's why we have a lot of notoriety. It is a true honor.
How about the experience of living with the other applicants?
Surprisingly it has been incredible. I have made very good friends and am already planning trips with them when the competition ends.
This is your second week at Baton Rouge, what have you done during this time?
I have really enjoyed it. I had the opportunity to explore Baton Rouge and do activities like swamp walks and seafood dining. Now we are in the rehearsal process which is super intense but very fun at the same time.
How are the rehearsals?
Very intense. The hours fly by without realizing it. Many details to memorize and learn. It will be a show not to be missed.
Can you give us some details about the outfit you will wear on Sunday?
My dress is from the Venezuelan designer Gionni Straccia. It is a perfect reflection of my taste because it is simple but it has a touch of glamor”.
What would you like to achieve if you are crowned Miss USA?
“I want to continue my work with students who [are the first in their family] to finish university studies because I am part of the I'm first organization that helps young people in this process. As Miss USA I would love to involve more people in this project."
