César Emilio Peralta, the alleged most wanted drug trafficker in the Dominican Republic and who was linked to the shooting that almost killed ex-baseball player David Ortiz, was captured in Colombia after allegedly fleeing his country in an attempt to evade the international arrest warrant that weighed on his head.

Known as El Abusador and compared to the figure of Pablo Escobar, Peralta was arrested in a luxurious hotel in the Caribbean city of Cartagena by the Colombian police in the framework of an international operation in which the US FBI participated, according to Colombian authorities.

These same sources quoted by the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo explained that the alleged boss arrived in the city on November 29 on board a yacht from an unidentified Caribbean island and that during his stay he apparently held business meetings and resorted to the service. of prostitutes.

The Cartagena police commander, Henry Sanabria, explained that the authorities acted as soon as it was learned of the presence of the wanted fugitive, who could be extradited in the short term to the United States, where he has several open causes.

"Peralta was a few days ago in Cartagena and in the next few hours he would travel to Panama, so we had to act promptly to avoid his flight," he said.

Accused of sending tons of cocaine to the United States and Europe over the years and owning dozens of prostitution shops in various countries, the Dominican authorities managed to dismantle his organization last August and later arrest several of his collaborators.

But El Abusador managed to evade the police fence until he could leave the island by sea, according to the president of the Dominican Republic's National Directorate for Drug Control, Félix Alburquerque Comprés, who specified that a telephone signal captured last month it was the first clue that allowed his capture to finally be reached.
