Lola Ponce, the Argentine singer with a powerful voice, launches a new musical identity and talks about how she enjoys a more ethical and ecological lifestyle with her family, along with her two daughters and her husband, Mexican actor Aarón Díaz. Do not miss the advice that has helped her find that balance with ideas that you can start to adopt with your family.

How did you start to get interested in sustainability?

Since I was a child I had that influence from my parents. […] We had a super pretty garden and my mom noticed this fascination in me and instilled it in me too. [Still] I love the fruit aromas, lemon, orange … and when I go to my mother's house in Rosario, I keep taking the juice and fruits from those trees that are my age. We always ate organic, super healthy. In my family it was established.

How have you adapted the way you grew up to be the mother of two girls?

Living in Miami became a habit because we both grew up like this. [My husband] Aaron [Díaz] grew up on a ranch with his own water, his own fruits, [doing] composting. So we moved that to the United States to show it to our daughters. We have solar panels at home, we recycle all the time, we plant our own trees and avocados, strawberries, bananas, everything. It really is a pleasure. [And] it is not only important to recycle, but also to reduce [consumption].

And how do you get it?

For example, something I learned in Italy […] is how to wear archival dresses, vintage. They were iconic dresses from the Tirelli tailor shop, which has all the movie costumes and has dressed [stars like] Sofia Loren and Brigitte Bardot. There I started storing a lot of iconic clothes from [designers like] John Galliano and Gianfranco Ferré. When I won the San Remo festival they gave me a lot of clothes and I recycled a lot [exchanging it] with my sister and with friends. It is a heritage that I still use today and I find it spectacular. Our clothes have to be like jewelry: forever.

You've spent a lot of time in Italy, how do you think that has affected your style?

Yes. Obviously I am a Latin woman, but living thirteen years in Italy I have been changing and transforming things that I liked about Italians, their style and their outfits. But for me it may already be the most incredible brand in the world that if it is not a proplanet, I don't use it. I prefer to use vintage.

That on the red carpet, but what about day to day?

I do not consume any type of fast fashion, for me it is completely out, it is an industry that is greatly damaging our planet. […] Everything I'm using right now is vintage or sustainably made. There are also brands that, in addition to reducing pollution, give a lot of work and do not lose the tradition of the people who live by and for that, such as Caravan. It is a Mexican brand made by Mexican artisans following Mayan traditions. Those clothes have super special energy and power.

For your beauty and skincare routine, are you also looking for sustainable options?

What I do with my skin is take care of it much more inside. I always eat very healthy, I don't eat fried foods and I try not to drink alcohol during the week. I do allow myself a little glass of wine on weekends.

How do you merge music with beauty?

Beyond that I was born a singer, I always had a special closeness with fashion and beauty. I have been the image of many brands many times. The era of social media also allows you to get closer and I love to share. […] They are my own followers, who are from all over the world, who ask me for the tips.

In addition to a balanced diet, how do you keep fit with so many commitments?

I train daily, very light, but daily. I just created an exercise routine with an Italian friend of mine who is a gymnast. It is a routine of only seven minutes that you can find on my Instagram TV (@ lolaponce) and on YouTube. It is dance, but work your whole body and you can do it at home or anywhere, and you feel splendid.

Would you like to create your own line of beauty products?

I have signed a contract with Roc Nation, Jay-Z's company, and we are working to develop a brand of sustainable beauty and creams. This is going to be a great year, with many projects and all accompanied by music.

What are you going to surprise us with in terms of music?

I am recording and writing my new album between Mexico and Los Angeles, also merging those identities, in Spanglish. I'm finally finding sounds that amuse me, that I like. Super happy, looking for a new identity, a new Lola.

How do you do so many things at once?

If not, I'm bored. My head is creating all the time and better dedicate it to good things.
