A young girl named Sophia Benner from South Carolina is going viral after her mom posted details about their shopping experience at Target on social media. The daughter of Brandi Benner was promised a “special prize” for completing potty training in a month.

At Target, the two-year-old chose a black doll dressed in a white lab coat, wearing a stethoscope around her neck. Ready to check out, the family went to the cash register, where the toddler offered to "pay." The cashier asked Sophia if she was sure that the doll she was purchasing was the one she wanted. The young girl said yes and the cashier responded, “But she doesn't look like you. We have lots of other dolls that look more like you.”

The mother, enraged, gave her daughter the opportunity to speak and she said, “Yes, she does. She's a doctor like I'm a doctor. And I'm a pretty girl and she's a pretty girl. See her pretty hair? And see her stethoscope?”

The cashier went on to respond, "Oh, that's nice."

After sharing their story, Benner is actually shocked at the popularity of her post. “It's sad that such a small act has become national news,” she told a news outlet. “In a sense it shouldn't be surprising that a kid of one color wanted a doll of another - that shouldn't be such a huge thing.”

She ended her post with, “This experience just confirmed my belief that we aren't born with the idea that color matters,”

Bravo, Sophia!
