Finding organizations and community events that highlight the incredible accomplishments of people of color is a wholly worthwhile endeavor, and that's why we're so excited about Remezcla's #Resist Film Series. The online platform for everything Latinx teamed up with Skylight Pictures for a series of films and lectures that will cover everything from immigration to the LGBTQ + rights movement.
Every installment focuses on political and social movements that have been led by people of color. The first installment on April 13th is entitled #Resist: Learning from the DREAMers and will focus on immigration activism. It will include an excerpt from the documentary Immigration Battle, a short film, and a stop motion animated short.
The DREAM Act, which stands for Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors, was set up to grant conditional residency with the hopes of permanent residency for undocumented immigrants, but it failed to pass in congress.
April's film series will include the videos followed by a lecture. Remix says, “We will be joined by filmmakers Michael Camerini, Shari Robertson, and William Caballero; along with Make the Road's Yasmine Farhang and Jorge Lievanos for a discussion following the program. This post-screening Q&A will offer those in attendance concrete actions they can take to join the immigrant rights movement.”
The series will be hosted by hosted by Union Docs in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on April 15th. If you can't make it to this one, not to fret, May 11th is the following installment.
