After succeeding in Paris, the Colombian designer returns to the city where he debuted when he was just a child. Do not miss his tribute to his roots and the looks with which he has conquered the Big Apple again.
He was only an 18-year-old boy when he presented his first collection back in 2002 in New York. Yesterday, after ten years on the catwalks in Paris, Esteban Cortazar returned to New York Fashion Week in style.
The attendees applauded a collection that, as we are used to, was full of autobiographical references, in this case to the cities in which he has lived and which have influenced him artistically. Born in Bogotá, the designer grew up in Miami, began his professional career in New York and achieved international success on the catwalks in Paris.
As reported by The Fashion Network, he himself described the collection as "a tapestry of experiences", in which "magical realism" was not lacking. Translated into garments, cashmere pants, ruffled dresses with balloon sleeves, lots of silk, velvet and colorful mohair wool pom poms in skirts, coats and capes paraded on the catwalk.
Always giving importance to his roots, the designer identified himself with the media as a "dreamer" and sent a very powerful message with his choice of the soundtrack. And it is that not only did he choose to open the parade with a version by Mercedes Sosa of the “Song with everyone”, but he also distributed the lyrics of the translated song among the attendees so that everyone could understand the message of unity among the Americans from which addresses this issue.
"Sol de alto Perú, Bolivia face, tin and solitude, a green Brazil kisses my Chile copper and mineral, I rise from the south towards the depths of America and the total pure root of a cry destined to grow and explode," says the song.
