Irina Baeva could not be more excited that the public is finally enjoying her work in The Dragon, a TV series currently broadcast by Univision and in which she plays Jimena, a brilliant financier who makes up the leading triangle of history with Sebastián Rulli and Renata Notni. The Russian actress, who is currently recording the soap opera Soltero con hijas in Mexico, resists; However, to define her character as 'the bad guy'.
"I am playing the bad or the good, I do not like cataloging the characters, I do not like to put them like that label because finally I consider that any character that you have to play before anything else is being human," says Baeva in an exclusive interview. with People en Español.
Although she is aware that 'maybe at times she makes incorrect decisions', the 27-year-old interpreter does not consider Jimena to be a bad woman.
"She is a woman who has a lot of ambition, but ambition I would say healthy because what she really wants is for her to be recognized," says the beautiful Russian. "What happens to Jimena is that she falls in love, as any woman wants the man to turn to see her and to be by her side, but then she will find many obstacles and make decisions that may not be correct at the time But that's how she feels, "he adds.
She is not a villain, but let's say that she takes an important turn in your career because your last projects were as the protagonist …
Yes, exactly. And I think that is also one of the most important and most beautiful things for an actor because how boring it would always be to play characters with similar characteristics. It is much more interesting to explore new horizons. I think it not only makes you grow as an actress but also as a person.
They say the antagonists have more fun, was this your case too?
I always try to have a lot of fun in the project, of course when you do something wrong there, some little thing that maybe in real life you would not do, you really enjoy it and because Ximena really has had several of those moments.
What was it like working with Sebastián Rulli?
I didn't have the opportunity to work with Sebastián. We had met a couple of times in the events of Televisa [for what] we already knew each other, but the truth is that it was incredible because Sebastián is a great companion and first of all he is a great human being. We managed to make a very nice friendship between all of us who were recording. Suddenly the filming was already very tired and Sebastián was always focused on his own and that also helps one, seeing that the other actor is committed to his character, with the project also as it puts you a certain responsibility of having to be at same level. Sebastián is a very good actor, he has a lot of experience in this and that is also always good for you because there you learn and there you steal a little from the part of his experience (laughs).
The dragon airs at 10 p.m. Eastern on Univision.
