In 2017, Hurricanes María and Irma destroyed 80 percent of the coffee plantations and crops in Puerto Rico. Organizations like the Hispanic Federation and Nespresso have been working tirelessly to reclaim the industry and work closely with coffee farmers to help revitalize coffee cultivation.

This Monday the first 100% Puerto Rican coffee was announced: Cafecito de Puerto Rico. This limited edition coffee highlights the naturally earthy look of Puerto Rican coffee beans.

George Clooney and acclaimed Puerto Rican actor and proud Lin Manuel Miranda joined forces with Nespresso and the Hispanic Federation to defend the importance of coffee growing in Puerto Rico. "I can't explain what coffee means to our culture," Lin Manuel is heard saying in conversation with Clooney. “I think I started drinking coffee when I was six years old. When we were little we put a lot of milk:

His love of coffee led Lin Manuel to tattoo the popular drink on his ankle. “My cousins on the Island and I got a cup of coffee tattooed. It was the only thing we could agree on, the creator of Hamilton recalled with laughter.

With the launch of this coffee, the commitment to revive the island's coffee sector is reaffirmed. Nespresso and the Hispanic Federation invite consumers to join in the revitalization efforts by helping farmers obtain the coffee plantations that will revive their land and help their communities prosper.

Beginning October 21, consumers who donate to the Hispanic Federation will have first access to Cafecito de Puerto Rico. And, every dollar donated will help plant a new coffee plantation on the island. To date, Nespresso has pledged part of a three-year initiative to revitalize Puerto Rico's coffee industry and committing 50,000 trees to the effort.

“This is a place that can have superior coffee. This issue is going to matter to many generations and that is the most important part of all this, said Clooney.

Consumers of the coffee brand can further support these efforts simply by recycling their capsules using a limited edition recycling bag. Each recycling bag represents a new coffee tree to be planted on the island. To celebrate coffee, culture and art in Puerto Rico, the bag features original and titled works of art, inspired by Puerto Rican artist Gerardo Cloquell.

All contributions to the Hispanic Federation will support the organization's efforts to plant 2.25 million new coffee trees in Puerto Rico. Through these efforts, it is also expected to show how and why coffee is so vital to the economy and the rich and vibrant culture of Puerto Rico. "Everyone wants Puerto Rican coffee!" Said Lin Manuel proudly.
