What would be a day full of adrenaline and challenges ended up being a nightmare for gymnast Samantha Cerio, who broke her legs during a jump.
The event took place last Friday during a university test in the Baton Rouge regional. After performing several stunts and jumps, the American gymnast landed poorly and broke both legs when falling erroneously.
Spectators stared in terror at the 22-year-old, who was rolling on the ground in pain.
After the incident, paramedics came to help the young woman, put her on a stretcher and immediately mobilized her to a nearby hospital, where she continues to recover.
Cerio reportedly dislocated both knees and ripped multiple ligaments. "It was extremely difficult to see," said Jeff Graba, the coach of the women's gymnastics team at Auburn.
Through his Instagram account, Cerio posted a moving message. “Friday night was my last night as a gymnast. After 18 years I will leave the chalk behind. I cannot be more proud of the person I have become thanks to [this sport]. Maybe it didn't end the way I expected, but nothing goes as planned.”
As expected, the video has gone viral on social media.
