A second student survivor of the terrible shooting at a Parkland high school a year ago has committed suicide. This has been confirmed by the Coral Springs police this Sunday.
Investigators reported to the Miami Herald newspaper that a teenager from the Stoneman Douglas school died of an "apparent suicide" last Saturday night.
A tragic news that has shocked everyone and from which information is still being collected. So far, the data of the girl, age and class he was going to are unknown.
This is the second suicide of a student at this center after the terrible massacre lived just a year ago. The first occurred a little over a week ago. Its protagonist is the young Sydney Aiello, who killed herself after being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
The consequences of the shooting and tragic events of this magnitude can result in depression and trauma that are pronounced in people over time.
We recall that 17 people died in February last year after a violent shooting that left these young companions lifeless in the eyes of hundreds of witnesses. Some images difficult to forget, especially in the mind of a child or teenager.
Ryan Petty, the father of one of the victims, decided to open the Walk Up Foundation in order to help people psychologically affected by these terrible events and thus prevent suicide.
Associated with Columbia University, the idea is to offer full support to those people who were traumatized without losing their lives. Ryan gives the example of the Columbine school whose shooting left almost as many victims of gunshots as of suicide.
