Explosion Takes Gasoline In Mexico

An explosion from a gasoline outlet in the state of Hidalgo, in Mexico, has left at least 67 dead and 75 injured, as confirmed by Health Secretary Jorge Alcócer. The figures have been updated in the last hours after the catastrophe that occurred this Friday.

As the Governor of Hidalgo, Omar Fayad, explained to CNN, it was an absolutely clandestine take. As argued in the first hours a statement from the Mexican Presidency "hundreds of people were collecting gasoline that had escaped from a pipeline in the community of San Primitivo, when there was a strong expñoción", read the letter.

It has been the country's own president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who has addressed the citizens, first of all to offer their deepest condolences to the families of the victims. "I want to convey to the families of the wounded that we are giving special attention in hospitals, that they are seeking to save lives, that now is the most important thing for us," he said at a conference.

He promised to clarify what had happened and report on it when all the data were correctly collected, and insisted on the importance of ending fuel theft in his country. "Although it hurts a lot, we have to continue with the plan to end fuel theft," he said seriously. "I'm very sorry about what happened, it hurts, but these things have to change."

There are images from before the exhibition where many people filled their buckets and jerry cans with gasoline without imagining the danger that their lives were running. The investigation into what happened is ongoing as is the attempt to save lives from area hospitals.

The government ensures that the military fell back in the area while the illegal extraction of gasoline by citizens took place, but did not give time to react since the strong explosion occurred soon after.
