The most cherished wish of a girl outside of Chicago has been fulfilled and her reaction is moving the world.
Sofía Mireya Sánchez, 11, received the good news that she would finally have a heart transplant just a few days after receiving rapper Drake's visit to the hospital.
In a moving video posted to Instagram on Sunday (August 26), Sofia's mother tells her the exciting news.
"My birthday wishes are - and it happened, well, one of them did," Sofia said in the video. "Meet Drake. That happened, and it was great. And my other wish is to have a heart, which will happen soon.”
"Well, guess what happened today," responds his mother. "You have a new heart."
Sofia begins to cry with emotion. "Do I have a heart, mom? Oh my God!"
The little girl was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy this summer, a condition that often results in heart failure. Thanks to a donor, the transplant was performed at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago. Cardiovascular surgeon Carl Backer said Sofia's nine-hour surgery was extremely good.
The Canadian rapper visited Sofia after seeing a video of his dance in a hospital hallway with his song, "In My Feelings", on Instagram, a platform on which Sofia has more than 32,000 followers.
