Tuesday, February 13 is the deadline for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) beneficiaries to renew their employment authorization.

Employment authorization documents will be issued with an expiration date of July 5, 2018 for eligible Hondurans and Nicaraguans who re-enroll with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

For Honduras, this postponement through the application of the TPS statute has been extended for six months.

Elaine Duke, the former secretary of Homeland Security revealed that she had not made a determination on the designation of the Honduran TPS in November, therefore it was concluded that it was time to redesign or end the program for Honduras.

Although many Hondurans will have the opportunity to obtain an extension to the TPS, the immigration department is alerting Central Americans to prepare for their return to Honduras instead of not doing it.

The conditions of the Honduran country will be evaluated about 60 days before July 5, which will determine if the TPS is extended or is eliminated.

The forms that Hondurans must use are I-821, the application for Temporary Protected Status (TPS). They can also complete Form I-765 at the same time. Both forms are free and available on the USCIS online site
