This weekend Roselyn Sánchez will preside over an event in Los Angeles where essential products will be raised for the people of Puerto Rico.

Tell us a little about the event you are organizing

All Puerto Ricans who live outside the island are concerned and feel helpless and we are seeing how we can help. It occurred to me to do as an event to collect essential items that are needed. In Puerto Rico there is no light, there is no water, the infrastructure is destroyed. My thinking is that with the help of the federal government and private companies, the country's infrastructure will be fixed.

The problem is the massive destruction that has taken place in the villages, in the communities where the hungry people are without medicine, without food, there is no gasoline. They are already reaching a moment of utter despair. Those people who are incommunicado have not received the necessary help through the fundraising events.

There are many families and many animals that have been abandoned to their fate without shelter or food. This is not a shipment that is going to go to the government, my group will directly take the items to different communities that are in great need.

Will it be through your foundation?

RSEvent for Life with that foundation is that I produce many charitable events in Puerto Rico. I take this opportunity to make a call. There has been a lot of controversy with this from American Airlines that prices have risen and it has been terrible and American … it is the number one company in my country, Puerto Ricans always use it, that is why it makes me very strange. And send shipments to Puerto Rico at this time, there are only two ways or by plane or by ship. The situation of sending it by ship, which is what I have scheduled, is very complicated, it is very expensive. Right now by the Jones Act - a law that, in addition to granting citizenship to Puerto Ricans, prevents the entry of ships other than crew, American flag and manufacturing - and the bureaucracy has not allowed people to enter because there is no way to do it by laws.

The most affective way for people like me who are making small movements to send donations is to send it by air. And American Airlines has not said anything and I would like them to collaborate that it does not cost them anything. I request that the airline carry the cargo of the groceries collected in its cargo area at no cost. Once I arrive, my team takes care of everything. It is easier to carry all donations by plane. It doesn't cost you anything because they are traveling to Puerto Rico.

Union make force

It is wonderful that we all come together in this way. It has been incredible, the support in Mexico for the earthquake, in Puerto Rico, the whole world as if it were a single person, a single country. Everyone is activated.

Is your family okay?

I have all my family in Puerto Rico. I was incommunicado with my parents for two days, with my brother too. My family is fine, they are safe. The biggest problem is that my parents have neither electricity nor water, they have been like this for six days. They are 78 years old each, my mom has ankle surgery and is living without water, they are desperate and the earliest I can get them out is October 4 and they tell me that they will surely cancel their flight because the Puerto Rico airport is not Okay and thousands of people are waiting to leave the country.
