Journalist Ilia Calderón was threatened with death by Chris Barker, a leader of the white knights of the Ku Klux Klan group during an interview that the Univision professional conducted in Yanceyville, North Carolina, according to a video broadcast by the network.

"I am not going to kick you out of the country, but I am going to burn you alive," the individual told Calderón during the tense face to face.

According to the producer of the Here and Now program, María Martínez warned interviewees that they were going to speak to a Hispanic and black journalist after the events in Charlottesville, Virginia, last weekend. Although they agreed, when they saw Ilia everything changed.

"I have never seen someone look with so much hatred, rancor and bewilderment," said Martínez.

Calderón also felt the negative energy emanating from the interviewees. "I was prepared for what I had to do," said the journalist. "The first thing she said to me was that I was the first black person to step on her property."

Without hesitation, Barker abandoned the interview and threatened to burn the Colombian alive. Baker's wife, who was present, tried to justify her partner and assured that she did not want to say those words. However, the interviewee reiterated that what he said was what he felt.

Calderón acknowledged that he knew in advance that there would be a rejection, but he never thought that there was such a level of hatred. She also confessed that she felt fear for her and the companions of the team that accompanied her.
