University of Miami student Elizabeth Goldenberg lost her life at age 22 a day after graduation. The young woman and several members of her family died in an accident while riding a hydrofoil through the swampy waters of the Florida Everglades. Details of the accident are still being investigated, but Rob Keppler - a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission - reported to People that the young woman and four other people were shot out of the boat when it suffered an impact.
The young woman, graduated from musical theater, died of the injuries caused by the accident at the Kendall Regional Medical Center hospital, according to the Sun Sentinel newspaper. Dana Goldenberg, 20, Elizabeth's sister, was also hospitalized for minor injuries. The parents of both suffered no physical damage, but are mired in great sadness. “We loved her, we missed her. It is a great loss to the world that he left so young,”his mother Renee Goldenberg told the Sun Sentinel. "I am a grieving mother … and it is a criminal investigation, so it would not be appropriate for us to discuss the circumstances in which she died."
The theater at the University of Miami, where the talented young woman performed several times while studying, shared a tribute to “Ellie” on her Facebook page, as her loved ones called her. The actress graduated magna cum laude in her class. "Ellie was a brilliant star and integral member of our community," says the message. "This news is a terrible shock for everyone and we will miss it more than can be expressed in words." They will be doing a memorial service at the college theater tonight and other tributes will be paid to the student in her hometown of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania. Rest in peace.
