The family of a young university student is desperately looking for her. Mollie Tibbetts, 20, went missing after jogging in Brooklyn, Iowa, Wednesday night. The young woman was wearing exercise clothes (black gym shorts, a black sports bra, and tennis), according to a statement from the Poweshiek County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the mysterious case.
Her family members are "extremely concerned and desperate for Mollie to return home," said a relative. Her cousin Emily Heaston wrote on a Facebook page to promote her search: “We can't share Mollie's photo and story enough. Thank you to all the volunteers and the Brooklyn community for their endless love and support.”
Hundreds of volunteers have looked for the young woman in the surroundings of where she was last seen. The area includes roads, farmland and fields. "There are active searches at the moment," added the statement from the sheriff's office. Authorities are also investigating the young woman's activity on social media and checking her computer for clues.
Heaston added on Facebook that authorities will search near Mollie's house, near her work and the routes where she used to go jogging. On Saturday, another Mollie relative, Sandi Tibbetts Murphy, shared on Facebook that "unfortunately there is nothing to update on the investigation."
The University of Iowa, where Mollie was studying, wrote on the Facebook page created by her relatives: "Our thoughts go out to Mollie Tibbett's family and friends." According to the girl's Facebook profile, she is studying psychology and has done an internship at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. The young woman lives in Brooklyn but is originally from Oakland, California.
Her aunt Kim Calderwood described her as "very responsible and conscientious" and assured the local WOI channel that her family will not stop looking for her. "We miss you. We are looking for you and we will never stop, "he added.
Tibbetts is 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighs about 120 pounds, has brown hair and eyes. If you have any information about his whereabouts, please call the Poweshiek County Sheriff's Office urgently at 641-623-5679.
