After seven years of staying in bed because of his 595 kilos, the Mexican Juan Pedro Franco is now recovering from the biliopancreatic bypass that he underwent a few days ago to try to start a new life.

“I threw all the desire to him so that everything is well. Now I really did my part so that there was no setback and well. I think everything went well, I think we are making progress and, well, here we are looking forward to it,”Franco said after the operation to the Spanish newspaper El País.

In order to undergo this surgery, the man who is considered the heaviest man in the world had to first lose 175 kilos, as well as control diabetes and high blood pressure.

Franco, 32, underwent surgery last week at a private hospital in Guadalajara, Mexico. According to the doctor responsible for the surgical intervention, José Antonio Castañeda, the procedure was "practically a complete success", although it must be constantly reviewed because, in his case, the evolution of the postoperative period presents more risks than usual.

The surgeons reduced three quarters of his stomach and left him with a capacity of 300 milliliters that will allow him to reduce his food intake, and therefore will allow him to lose weight. "You have to see how it responds to this new change," Castañeda mentioned at a press conference. "It is an extreme case and any type of contingency or urgency can be expected."

This is the first of two interventions that were considered from the start. The patient is expected to "lose 40 to 50 percent of excess weight." Doctors will wait for the wound to fully heal so that you start drinking fluids and gradually come to receive food.
