A whole controversy has generated in the world of Brazilian soccer the news that goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes, sentenced to 22 years in prison for the murder of his partner in 2010, was signed to play in the Boa Esporte de Varginhas second division club.

Although it could be said that everyone has the right to a second chance at life, it seems that the terrible crime he committed continues to generate criticism of all kinds among followers of the sport. Not only that, some of the team's sponsors would be thinking of ending their support after hearing the news.

“I am very happy with this opportunity… I have been preparing for quite some time. Going through what I've been through has not been easy. I honestly don't care what people say. I focus on my work. The important thing for me is to start again”, he revealed at a press conference in which he was presented by his new club.

The 32-year-old doorman confessed to knowing about the crime but denied having participated in the death of his then partner and mother of his son, Eliza Samudio, 25, according to a BBC report. Information gathered during the trial added that the material authors of the macabre crime tore the body to pieces and fed it to a group of dogs.

Fernandes was jailed in 2010 and three years later he received a 22-year sentence for the murder of Samudio. As reported in a report from the Spanish online site Sport, Brazil's supreme court has granted the benefit of probation while appeals procedures are carried out.
