Emma Coronel Aispuro, El Chapo's wife, tells how the crush happened with the Mexican drug trafficker. The journalist María Antonieta Collins recounted her love story in Chronicles of Saturday (Univisión). Joaquín el Chapo Guzmán, who was extradited to the United States on January 19, met her when she was a beauty queen in Mexico. According to her, it was love at first sight when she met the 53-year-old Mexican drug trafficker when she was just 17. “We greeted each other. She invited me to dance, we danced and that's it,”she said in an interview with Univisión.

After several months they met again and there began "a beautiful friendship", according to Colonel. She grew up in a family linked to drug trafficking since both her father and brother were imprisoned on related charges. From her mother she learned to be discreet and "the strength I have had from so many problems," she said.

What made you fall in love with El Chapo? "Her talk, her way of being," she says of her husband, who is 32 years older than her. Although her 2008 wedding is reported to have ended with a police visit, she denies it. "I had no knowledge of any of that, everything was very quiet," he added.

The American citizen lived with her husband in Culiacán, the capital of Sinaloa. There she spent hours alone at home and waited for him to arrive at night, without asking questions. In 2011, she gave birth to her twin daughters at a hospital near Los Angeles, CA. “Since I was born there, I assumed it was a good idea that they were also American citizens. The United States makes me a good choice and I need them to be where I am, he revealed.

Coronel also recalled how they were in Mazatlán in February 2014 when the army entered their apartment and their family life fell apart. “At six in the morning it was when we heard the noises that the doors had been knocked down. At that time we heard that they were identifying themselves and are already making the arrest. I didn't see them because they quickly blindfolded me. I heard that they spoke English. I thought it was the American government,”he recalls of this incident after which Guzmán was returned to the El Altiplano prison from where he had escaped in 2001. When he saw the armed guards arrive, he only thought of his young daughters who were with them.

Although he has had several scares with El Chapo, he defends him. "He is an excellent human being, an excellent father, an excellent friend," he said.

The former beauty queen also was not affected by the rumors of romance between her husband and the Mexican actress Kate del Castillo, to whom she wrote affectionate messages. “These are things [that] I don't focus on because I don't know how true those types of messages are. I cannot guarantee that I have written them,”he stated.

About the time El Chapo spent with Del Castillo in the Mexican jungle in 2016 to allegedly talk about a film about his life that Del Castillo and Sean Penn wanted to do, Coronel limited himself to saying: “I have nothing to say. He is an adult and knows what he does with his life. If he wanted to make a movie, then it is his life”.
