The story of a Japanese couple who have been able to live together without him speaking to his wife for 20 years is going around the world. This is Otou Katayama, who decided to apply "the ice gall", that is to say, absolute silence, to his patient wife Yumi.

One of her three children, Yoshiki, 18, wrote to a popular television show in her country, overwhelmed by the unusual situation of her parents. In the surprising letter, the young man related how his father “normally speaks to us, his children, but he has never spoken a single word to our mother”.

The boy also assured that he has never heard his parents have a single conversation and that, when his mother tried to say something to her husband, he answered with a grunt or a shake of the head.

The producers of the program, helped by the couple's three children, arranged an appointment with the couple in a park, where the husband finally explained to his wife that he had been jealous of the time she spent with her children.

The conversation between them begins when he says, "It's been a while since we spoke ."

"I know," answers the woman.

“You were so worried about the children (…) Yumi, until now you have endured a lot of difficulties. I want you to know that I am grateful for everything,”confesses her husband.

In the end, the husband tells her that he wants to continue talking to her, even after the program, a promise that was received with tears by the children.
