After 21 years of marriage, Jeff Becerra and Michelle Mahoney celebrated their divorce in style. The party included dancing, canapés, champagne and a cake with the message "Long live the new beginnings" written in meringue.

The celebration took place last Saturday in Berkeley, CA, with about 50 guests including family and friends, and it became a viral phenomenon, since divorces are usually not fun processes.

Emma Becerra, one of the couple's daughters, shared on her Twitter account photos of her parents' divorce party, which garnered more than 50,000 retweets and more than 160,000 likes.

"I did not expect my tweet to be so successful, I just wanted to show the photos of the party to my friends, but suddenly it started to go viral," he told the Spanish newspaper El País Becerra. “They have separated because the two felt that the marriage was no longer working. They, my sister and I continue to make family life at all hours. There is no bad feeling”.

Divorce parties have become popular in the United States in recent years. Most commonly, however, ex-partners celebrate their breakup parties separately, not together, as Jeff and Michelle did.

“It was my mother's idea. They wanted to show people that they are still friends. With this gesture, they tried to make the process uncomfortable, "added Emma." This party shows that not all divorces have to be a disaster. My parents have separated without problems. It is a fun way to start a new chapter in our lives.” Congratulations to the ex-partner!
