After achieving a space as a scientist at NASA, Edmundo Gómez Moreno, known by the stage name of Raymix, decided to give up his distinguished career to venture as a singer in the genre of cumbia sonidera.

“At University the golden opportunity of my life came, the NASA program came for the first time; I was lucky, I didn't even take an exam, it was automatic,”Gómez Moreno explained to the Mexican television program Ventaneando (TV Azteca). “The idea [of singing] started when I was doing some kind of NASA research. Contrasting, being in the laboratory [with] science, engineering, doctors and projects, but in the background of music, I played sound music”.

Originally from the town of San José el Vidrio, State of Mexico, Raymix decided to compose the song “Oye mujer” which he recorded in a small studio; Later, with a budget of three thousand pesos (approximately $ 160), he made a video that was uploaded to YouTube and "has me here changing my life."

“I liked it, I loved feeling that flavor, that combination; I had the neighborhood here [in my mind and heart], but I also had the technology and the advancement, and the advancement out there,”he added. "When I returned to Mexico it was when I experimented on the computer and said 'I am going to make a song the whole essence and base of this folk style, let's say, but that is soaked with more futuristic, more modern elements and sounds."

Now, said video counts almost 600 million reproductions; Juanes even looked for him to collaborate with him on the same song and a new Remix version was made; which continues to reap success. Raymix intends to pursue a career in music.

"Music is made to convey a message," he said. “Music becomes music when it makes people vibrate. That you touch the sensitive fibers of the people”.
