What are your 3 golden rules when it comes to coloring your hair at home?
Make sure you know your current base color. My first rule of thumb is to keep your color two shades lower or darker than your natural color. It is important that you know that the color will not lighten your color. It is also important to do an allergy test to the product 48 hours before dyeing all your hair. I suggest coloring hair when it is completely dry, unwashed and residue free. Have everything you need on hand before starting the process.
What is a misconception or false myth that people have about dye at home?
That the end result is not going to be the same as what you can get at the hairdresser. Also that they need to apply the root color to the tips every time you dye, but actually doing this the tips can end up very dry. Apply the color from root to tip when you are trying a new color, the second time you apply it you just have to do it at the roots.
What is your best advice for beginners?
If this is your first time, take your time! First, buy more than one box just in case. To avoid unevenness in different areas, separate the hair into four sections: two in front of the ears and two behind. Start on both sides in front and then on the back. When you are done, massage the hair to distribute the color.
