In beauty matters, there is rarely a consensus among the entire medical and scientific community, except on the subject of sun protection. Today it is impossible to find a single dermatologist who does not recommend this product as the absolute essential in the routine of any person, man or woman, who wants to prevent skin cancer and premature aging.
"It is a fact, each ray of sun you take is aging your skin," says the dermatologist and collaborator of Neutrogena, Dr. Sarah Dolder.
For years you have heard the rumor that there is not much difference between a protection factor 30 and a 50, but is it true? "The truth is that people do not apply enough amount of protector, a higher factor will always give you more protection," he says. “If you use a factor 30, unless you apply a good thick and uniform layer you will be receiving only around a 15 of protection, whereas if you use a factor 70 or 90, even if you do not apply it perfectly you will be obtaining at least 50 of protection".
That is, there is a difference, the higher the protector the more protection you will get.

Sure you have heard of the importance of reapplying sunscreen throughout the day, but do you know how many times they are necessary? "If it is a normal day in the office where you are going to go from the car to one building to another building, it is enough to apply a good layer of protector in the morning before makeup," explains the expert. "And then maybe a few touches of powder protector so as not to ruin the makeup, but if you are going to do any physical activity outdoors you should reapply every two hours, if it is an aquatic activity every time you go in and out of the water."
The city in which you live also influences and that is why the UV Index has long been considered as a standard international measure to calculate the intensity of the sun's rays every day and can be consulted in any portal or application of meteorological information. “Over the last 20 years, the days when there is a very high or extreme UV Index have increased. In Los Angeles, for example, there are 29 more days a year of high intensity than two decades ago, in New York 38 days.”
Did you know that many people with dark skin think that they should not use sunscreen? "We can finally end that myth," says Dolder. “Whether you have type 1 skin, very light, or 5, darker skin, your skin continues to suffer from sun damage. Many times I tell my younger patients, who see the possibility of developing skin cancer as something very distant, that each ultraviolet ray they receive is causing premature aging and that usually takes effect."
