Mason Pearson, the engineer who invented the product and founded the brand, arrived in London in the mid-1860s and started working in a small factory where they made brushes by hand. In 1885 he invented a machine that made the manufacturing process of brushes faster for which he won an award at the famous world exhibition in London that year.

Shortly after, he invented the semi-oval rubber that we see today in many brushes. After his death, his wife and children continued to improve this rubber and in fact the model that is still used today is no different from the one that was put up for sale in the early 1920s.
