Kendall Jenner is getting real about her "debilitating" struggle with acne.

The 23-year-old model - who, earlier this month, became Proactiv's newest spokesperson - got honest about her struggle in an emotional Instagram Story on Thursday, as part of the popular '10 Year Challenge 'meme.

Sharing two side-by-side photos of her face at 13, covered in bumps, Jenner explained, she “ran home crying everyday because people would stare at my skin.”

Jenner then shared a photo of herself and her clear skin on set, boasting that she was wearing “zero makeup.”

In an attempt to help others dealing with similar obstacles, Jenner also wrote a lengthy message on Instagram, sponsored by Proactiv. It came attached to a black and white photo of Jenner wearing a bath towel wrapped around her head.

"While there are much bigger problems happening in the world, suffering from acne for me was debilitating," Jenner wrote. "It's something that I've dealt with since I was a young teen and has caused me to feel anxious, helpless and insecure."

“As humans, I don't think we share our insecurities enough because we live in a time where being 'perfect' is the standard. We curate our life online and pick the pretty moments to post,”she added, explaining,“I'd like to show a younger generation that not everything is perfect.”

Jenner then went on to say that while “being insecure” about her acne gave her “thick skin,” she “wouldn't ever wish that feeling upon anyone.”

After trying “countless options,” she says she's now found something that's been helpful in maintaining clear skin.

"It's been a long journey but I'm excited for where my skin is now," she said. “I didn't think I'd see the day where I would feel confident posting a makeup free picture. My goal is to open up a dialogue around skin positivity.”

Earlier this month, Jenner opened up to PEOPLE about her skin issues, explaining that having gorgeous sisters made her struggle even tougher.

"A couple of my siblings struggled when they were much younger, but they never really had it like I did," Jenner said. “That was also kind of a tough thing for me: to look at my beautiful sisters with beautiful skin and be like, 'Okay, well, why me? What's wrong with me? '"

Over the years, the Keeping Up with the Kardashian star's siblings - including older sisters Kourtney Kardashian, 39, Kim Kardashian West, 38, and Khloé Kardashian, 34 - have all tried to give advice and boost Jenner's confidence.

“They were always there to lift me up and make me feel better about myself. The best part about my family and my sisters is that they never give up and they're always looking for a way to help and looking for solution,”Jenner said.

But when her skin finally cleared up this time around, Jenner was more than happy for her loved ones to back off.

“Everyone's always trying to help, so for years all of them were involved. Towards the end, I was like 'Okay, everyone shut up! I figured it out, '”says Jenner, laughing. Just let me live my life. Everyone stop bothering me.”
