When Victoria Beckham attended the British Council of Fashion Awards this week in a black dress of her own that left her back exposed, many realized that something had changed.

The exSpice no longer has a trace of the tattoo that decorated her back from the nape of the neck with a Thai saying that means "I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine" and that was done on her sixth wedding anniversary. According to British newspapers, the designer would have started the process of erasing the tattoo in 2015. How long does it take to remove the ink? We spoke with Dr. Lesley Clark-Loeser of the Precision Skin Institute clinic, to answer all questions.

Can you do a tattoo removal treatment at any time of the year?

Yes, laser treatment can be done at any time of the year. That being said, the treated area needs to be protected from the sun, especially for several weeks before treatment and 2-4 weeks afterward. After the treatment it is possible that the area becomes inflamed and if you protect it from UV rays you can avoid pigmentation problems, especially on darker skin.

How many sessions does it take to remove a tattoo like Victoria Beckham's?

It is very difficult to predict exactly how many sessions each person may need to remove a tattoo. There are many factors that influence: the color of the tattoo, whether it was done by a professional or not, the type of laser used to remove it … With modern treatments, the normal would be between 3 and 7 sessions, ideally separated by periods of 2 or 3 months.

What are the best products to take care of the area of the skin where the tattoo that we want to remove is?

A sunscreen is a must. For after treatment I recommend using a product that helps protect, maintain and repair the barrier of the skin that is temporarily affected as a result of laser treatment. In my practice we apply a silicone gel with permeable gas, which allows breathing.
