Just a month ago, the news that Burberry burns clothing and products valued in millions of dollars went around the world and ignited the controversy in the media and especially on social networks that did not understand why the company preferred to get rid of merchandise that does not sell in such a way that is toxic and bad for the environment.

After criticism and the controversy became front page news in the international press, the British company announced today through a statement on its website that it will not burn its merchandise again and also added that it will stop using skins because it considers that “modern luxury is being socially and environmentally responsible”.

"Today we announce that we will stop destroying products that cannot be sold, with immediate effect," confirms Marco Gobetti, CEO of the firm, in the statement. "We are committed to applying the same creativity that we put into our products to all facets of Burberry."

In addition, the company has taken the opportunity to announce that it will also stop using animal skins in all its lines, thus joining other major fashion brands that have abandoned this practice since this year, such as Versace, Gucci or Michael Kors.

"There will be no more real skin in Riccardo Tisci's debut collection that he will present this month and we will gradually remove those that already exist," they announce. "For many years the use of Burberry fur has been limited to rabbit, fox, mink and Asian raccoon. Both the use of these and angora will be prohibited from now on in all our future collections”.

Bravo for Burberry and for the thousands of consumers and fashionistas who claimed the brand more responsibility for the environment through social networks.
