The day is almost coming when Gelena Solano says yes to her boyfriend of three years, Steve Cutuli. The couple will celebrate the anticipated wedding on May 13 at the Cipriani restaurant in New York and, like every bride, the emotion has invaded Solano, whom we accompany to try on dresses in the atelier of the Dominican designer Lucía Rodríguez, in New York. We spoke with the beloved presenter to tell us all the details about the design she wants, the makeup she will wear on her big day and the great party she has planned to celebrate one of the most special days of her life.

Gelena, tell us about the place you chose to celebrate your link

We chose Cipriani for its sumptuous and iconic architecture, and for the historical value it represents for New York. The theme of our wedding and reception is totally New York and this venue has all the character that represents the capital of the world and our personal taste.

What will your dress be like?

I'm looking for an elegant [and] comfortable dress. I think less is more.

Why did you choose designer Lucía Rodríguez to make it?

Years ago I modeled for Lucía and since then it really caught my attention. Her professionalism and how detailed [she is] when it comes to making a dress. We are both Dominican, we understand each other very well and I appreciate your patience and dedication with me. [I] have lost weight and she has to adjust the measurements of my dress every week.

Is there an icon or artist that has inspired your wedding look?

No, none, although I recognize that most wedding dresses carry the same essence. We have put in this wedding our own identity and inspiration stamp. Every detail from decoration, music and even my dress, we have looked for and chosen according to our personal style. I love fashion, but this time I don't want anything exuberant. Those gorgeous wide dresses don't fit me. I am short and do not favor me.

How do you want to see yourself that day?

For makeup I would like earth colors, very soft tones. I hardly ever tie my hair because I don't like the way I look. I want a beautiful hairstyle that preserves my essence. I want two different ones: one for the ceremony and one for the reception. Katiana Polanco will be in charge of that. She knows my taste and is used to makeup and styling numerous celebrities.

What will be the different touch at your wedding?

During my wedding ceremony I will have two seats arranged symbolically for my grandparents who will be accompanying me from heaven. It is very important to me that you are with me on this special day. I grew up with my maternal grandparents and they were my life. [Also] all the floral arrangements for our wedding will be donated. One part to a church and the other to a nursing home as a Mother's Day gift.
